About the Chinese layout

Polytyper uses the standard Chinese layout, written left-to-right. Because keys are mapped by physical position, muscle memory carries over from any QWERTY keyboard — making this an easy way to write 中文 from any computer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I type in Chinese online?
Open the Polytyper Chinese keyboard above and start typing. Your physical keys are mapped to the Chinese layout by position, so you can type 中文 even on an English keyboard — or click the on-screen keys with your mouse.
Do I need to install a Chinese keyboard?
No. Polytyper runs entirely in your browser. There's nothing to install and no system settings to change — just type, then copy your text anywhere.
Is the Chinese keyboard free?
Yes, the Chinese keyboard, typing trainer and sample texts are completely free to use.
